Notes on Timing

The objective is to ensure the correct name is displayed on screen while the graduate is in view and their name is announced. To achieve this, advance to the next name as one graduate exits the video frame and the next enters. If using a live reader, it can be beneficial for the reader to be visible in the video shot. MarchingOrder recommends that Name Advancers practice during rehearsal with the actual camera feed and stage setup to perfect the timing.

Blank the Display Using Spacebar

In display mode, use the spacebar to blank the screen –this removes any graduate information being displayed from the screen. There are several reasons to do this–most commonly, during a break between two groups of graduates. In this case:
  1. After the last graduate of group one has exited the camera shot, the name advancer would blank the screen by either clicking the Blank Screen button or pressing  the spacebar. The software indicates that the screen is blank by outlining the blank screen button and External Display in red.
  2. As the first graduate of group two approaches, use the down-arrow key to move to the next graduate’s name, and then press spacebar to un-blank the screen and display the graduate’s name at the proper time. The blank screen feature is also useful if the graduates get out of order for any reason, or at the end of a ceremony.
  3. For a Two-Line Ceremony, you can individually blank each side of the screen by pressing (left side of screen) and (right side of screen) keys. Pressing the spacebar will blank both sides of the screen.
